The Future of Work is Here: How Can Enterprise and Higher Education in Ireland Respond Together?

On Wednesday, March 30th from 2:30-3:45 pm Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, Simon Harris, will open the next Convene Enterprise Forum hosted by the UCD Innovation Academy. Minister Harris will be joined by founding director of UCD Innovation Academy Professor Suzi Jarvis, UCD’s Vice President of Research, Innovation and Impact Professor Orla Feely, and a panel of enterprise leaders moderated by Irish Times journalist Jennifer O'Connell to discuss how enterprise and higher education are responding to the transforming world of work - and why we need to embrace this opportunity for a greener economy and more inclusive workforce.

Pedro Angulo, Head of Learning, Talent and Engagement, Brown Thomas Arnotts
Pedro oversees learning, talent and engagement in Brown Thomas Arnotts – two iconic Irish retail brands dating from the 1840s that came together in 2015 and today employ over 1000 people. Previously, Pedro was Head of Leadership Development in AIB. He is passionate about creating more human, purpose led and customer-centric workplaces.

Dee Coakley, Co-founder and CEO, Boundless
Dee is CEO and co-founder of Boundless, an Irish company that supports companies to quickly and easily employ people in other countries. Named as one of Ireland’s hottest startups in 2021 by Wired, Boundless has raised €4.5 million in seed funding to date and is now active in 20 countries with a further 17 in the pipeline.

Kevin Marshall, Head of Education, Microsoft
Kevin heads education at Microsoft Ireland and in his role engages with schools, universities and government. Kevin has overseen one of Microsoft’s flagship education projects in Ireland, Dream Space, which provides immersive, research-based STEM experiences enhancing STEM skills alongside crucial social-emotional skills such as empathy, creativity and collaboration. Kevin began his career as a teacher in Boston.

Kate O' Sullivan, Director of Public Policy, LinkedIn
Kate is responsible for government relations, public policy and the LinkedIn Economic Graph in the EU. LinkedIn’s Economic Graph team partners with world leaders, local and national governments and leading economic institutions to analyse labour markets and recommend policy solutions to prepare the global workforce for the jobs of the future.

The Convene Enterprise Forum is a quarterly event series that serves as a shared space for exchange and discussion between enterprise, higher education, policymakers and others. Events are free to attend and will take place online and in-person. The Convene Enterprise Forum seeks to bring enterprise and higher education closer together, find common ground and generate new ideas.
